Ever since we stepped back into IMU the above topic has cropped up many a time. I guess that's not surprising as it's in 1 month's time, ie. 9 April 2005. The Sem 5vers have gone all out in their efforts to make this one memorable - I hear they're calling in a jazz band and that's about enough to persuade me to go, personally. :> They're also washing cars and arranging a food fair to raise funds for the ball.
For my batch-mates, the ball is really at an odd time. On one hand, it will be our last ball in IMU BJ, but it can't be considered as our graduation ball per se because we will only graduate (God willing) beginning next year. And the place is kind of far away. So the batch is divided on the issue: some are definitely going, some are not, and the rest are stuck in limbo.
Anyway, this talk about the ball has brought up many interesting tidbits about the batch's social politics. You know, who's going to ask who, who wants to ask who but is chicken, who spurned who, who accepted who, etc. And with the start of more than several partnerships in our batch to commemorate the beginning of the semester, one wonders if it were only coincidence that these pairings should happen just in time for the ball... As a bystander looking in on the stream of information about the ball, I can't help but feel amused. The currents, undercurrents and aftershocks affecting the batch are just so interesting to observe.
But even with all the talk about finding someone to go with, invariably those unattached ones will go with their unattached friends. It's simpler that way, and perhaps more fun? Well, for me, a guaranteed seat will do - it's an improvement from going as a performer and not having seat. And for post-ball entertainment, I'd suggest a reprisal of last year - a trip to a good jazz lounge to just sit and chill. Anyone with me on that?
