Syndrome-itis

You know how great doctors have put their names to the diseases they have discovered, eg. Down's syndrome, Cushing's disease, Grave's disease, etc.? Well, there seems to be inklings of such genius around us as well, as shown in some of the blogs.

For example, Adeline has coined the term Iatrogenic Paranoia, detailing her "discovery" of how sensitive medical students are to their health status. She's also discovered "Yiweitis", which currently has a prevalence rate of 1 in about a 100 million, but is very infectious (coming soon to a person near you!).
Xiao has come up with the Pre-Exam syndrome, complete with diagnostic criteria (associated survival rates to follow). He based his study and conclusions on a select group of medical students, but can be extrapolated to include students of any discipline facing major exams.
Zen's hard work studying has paid off, for she's discovered the "looking forward to" syndrome, which is probably more prevalent in society than one expects - it's a whole submerged iceberg out there!
These are just the few recent discoveries to rock the medical world, and I'm sure there were lots more mentioned before theses, as well as lots more out there waiting to surface. Who knows, we could be hearing about the Gong syndrome, or Xiao disease, or Zen anomaly in the future!

As for me, the words "post-exam stress syndrome" passed my lips yesterday, which I think is more of an oxymoron than anything. I'm just happy with my 10 days of post-exam freedom. :)
