If you didn't jump up in recognition of the above, it's the symphony which the all-famous Ode to Joy melody is taken from. And who wouldn't jump on the opportunity to be part of a performance of this great work?! I'm going to be quite stressed on the weekend of the 20th October, but boy is it going to be satisfyingly fun!
It's educational as well as entertaining, as they're going to talk about Beethoven's 9th (and more specifically the Ode to Joy theme) and how it's been used/abused in the past years - in uprisings (Tiananmen Square), art and movies (A Clockwork Orange, I think the Beatles used it once), and as national anthems (Rhodesia has used it before).
