Causes of hypoxia:
- Impaired ventilation
- Impaired diffusion of gases at lung level
- Impaired pulmonary capillary blood flow
- Impaired transport of gases through blood
- Increased tissue extraction of O2
Acute effects of hypoxia: sleepiness, laziness, false sense of well-being, impaired judgement, blunted pain perception, increasing errors on simple tasks, decreased visual acuity, clumsiness, tremors etc.
I'd like to add another cause of hypoxia: studying. Coz the whole of today I've been feeling sleepy, lazy, falsely satisfied with what I've been studying, judging wrongly how much more I have to know, making errors when answering even simple questions, seeing double when looking at notes etc.
Hopefully I don't get hypoxic when sitting for the test tomorrow...
