This post is dedicated to Kah Yee who, at the last minute, without breakfast or lunch, swam the beginning leg in our women's breaststroke event. Thanks Kah Yee, we couldn't have done it without you. Rassam, Calvin, Shi Ching, TJ, Adrian, Linda, Jacqueline, even Eugenia, you guys are the best man!
The swim team 2004
So how did we do? Pretty well, I'd say! We pitted the strength of an international swimmer + some pretty good local, raw, undiscovered talent against district and state swimmers and came up trumps.
4 x 50 medley relay: This started out with the backstroke and a nervous heart-palpitating me. It figures, as I've never done competitive backstroke swimming before. And obviously, I bit the dust, or the splashes, of the other competitors. Thank goodness for the guys!! Adrian made up for lost ground and more with his superb breaststroke, and Rassam flew like a bullet while flitting very nicely with his butterfly stroke. And TJ - ah TJ - a swallow-like dive which took his goggles off didn't deter him from competing for the lead with the sem4 guy, just that it took him off course and he veered into the divider before correcting his course and reaching the finish. A very very close race! Result: a well-deserved 2nd.
4 x 50 women's breaststroke relay: Kah Yee swam a courageous first lap, Jacqueline with a great 2nd, and Linda with a blistering fast 3rd, (edited) all the while catching up and overtaking the other swimmers. I was last and all I had to do was to push for 2nd place, the sem4 team being already way ahead. I succeeded, but partly because of a cramp incidence. Bittersweet. Result: 2nd.
4 x 50 men's freestyle relay: The sem3's foray into the finale of this competition was opened by TJ, again with his beautiful swallow-like dive, which was followed by a massive belly-flop by Calvin. This, however, did not mar his precisive and powerful strokes bringing him to the other end of the pool. Then Shi Ching took over, and proved his claims to have no stamina to swim the length of the pool by actually doing it in quick time. Our international swimmer was the backbone and last swimmer of this relay and boy, did he fly! It was a close fight between him and the sem4-ian, but Rassam prevailed during the last few metres, and capped the outing with sweet sweet victory. Result: 1st.
Overall result: 2nd. And we celebrated this unexpected victory by leaping off the springboards into the diving pool (I've always wanted to do that :) ), Adrian doing a neat 2 (or was it 2 1/2?) somersault dive. A perfect 10 for a beginner's dive!

Other news: the Fantastic Females Foxes of Sem3 won the futsal competition, crushing their opponents like a steamroller (or maybe two)! They celebrated by chia-ing their beloved coach, Bruce Lee Soon Liang, to a dinner at Chillis.
