These guys sure know how to have fun!

For those who don't know, I go to Subang Jaya Gospel Centre, and have been going there for the past (almost) 3 years now. (wow, that long, I didn't realise...) One thing I like about the people there, and particularly (for this post) about the youth is their penchant for games of all kinds. For one, they love captain's ball, a game that is somewhat like netball (but more interesting). I love the game too, ever since playing it in primary school and having inter-class conflicts because of it, and I'd thought that no-one else played the game. Here they play it almost every week and even have a yearly tournament for it!
They also have the most amazing indoor games! Here are a few that I've played over the years:
  1. Blow-pong: A game that needs a ping-pong ball, preferrably 2 square tables, and a lot of air. Set the tables side by side and stand 2 people on opposite sides. Participants have to blow at the ping-pong ball with their mouths to ensure that the ball doesn't fall off the sides of their table but falls off the other table instead. Variants include playing in pairs, or putting people on each side of the table. Imagine people huffing and puffing at a small ping-pong ball trying to get it to move the direction they want it to, and sometimes totally failing. Totally priceless!
  2. Sit-down volleyball: Needs a few tables or a barrier that's tall enough to tower over people sitted on the floor, a ball, and people of any number divided into 2 groups. The two groups sit at opposite sides of the barrier and the ball is hit from one side of the barrier to the other, all the while with the participants' butts not leaving the floor. Each side has 3 touches to the ball before it should go to the other side, and if that's not done, or if the ball touches the ground, or if it goes out-of-bounds, or a participant's butt lifts off the ground (they're not so strict on this rule) the other side gets the point. Serving is also done sitting down. The twist is that each group cannot see the ball when it's on the other side of the barrier, so they have to anticipate the ball. Imagine hearing squeals and screams and shouts happening on the other side while tensed up in anticipation of the ball, then spotting the ball coming in your direction and suddenly there's not enough time to plan what to do with the ball. And it's hard remembering to keep your butt on the ground!
  3. Indoor hockey: Set up a court with "goals" on both sides. Wrap a tennis ball in paper, and get ready enough "hockey sticks" by rolling up sheets of newspaper. Any amount of people in two groups can play at a time, depending on the ratio of guys to girls, and the space you have. It's played like real hockey, but imagine hitting at a ball that won't go where you want it to go, with "sticks" so short that you have to squat to get a decent whack at the ball. You hit at hands and legs more often than you hit the ball, and the ball seems to get into the "goal" more by luck than skill. We have extreme fun trying though.

I don't know what else they have up their sleeves, but it'll be fun to find out. But when all's said and done, you need the right kind of people to play these games with, and these SJGCians manage to make it a totally enjoyable experience. That is, if you let go and join in the fun too. Keep on enjoying life people (of course on the right and non-extreme side) - you only live once.
