O great Teacher! You impart knowledge
to me to be like You.
You are the seeds of knowledge
planted in my brain
that flowers to become
the words from my mouth
that hopefully fall sweetly
and germinate in their minds.
You are the red ink from my pen
that flows onto the pages I mark;
You guide my hand in correcting the mistakes
and giving grades as they deserve.
You are the voice that cajoles answers
from reluctant or unenlightened lips,
or the warning of possible consequences
to those who continue to err.
Or the sharp edge in that same voice
when someone is playing the fool;
and in the stare that I have to give,
You're the fiercesome lion which threatens to strike.
You will be my strength
to last through these weeks;
you will be my inspiration
when looking for teaching materials;
You will be my enthusiasm
that infects them to learn;
You will be my endurance
when the class misbehaves, again.
Teach me to teach.
Amen.
