Scenery
Spectacular views, especially from our lakeside resort. We got to see the lake in all its moods - free-flowing, freezing over, snow-covered flatland, and thawing dangerzone. And the sunrises and sunsets - so beautiful, and so near together it was hard distinguishing one from another.Snow and Sport
Fun playing with ice and snow and water, revisiting younger days with the swings and see-saws, and living it up on snowboards. Even mini man-made snow flurries (see below).

Sights
Checking in on Santa and Lordi (Finnish winner of Eurovision) at the Arctic Circle at -10 degrees; Moomintrolls and Lenin at Tampere; stony Suomenlinna and Temppeliaukio in Helsinki; playing Mafia and with steam while train-waiting; and our quaint cabin-by-the-lake.
Sustenance
Local fastfood chain HesBurger; salmon baked and raw, pastries galore and kebabs (kebabit in Finnish!) from the market halls - my favourite is the cinnamon-cardamon roll; Lordi's Rocktaurant; homecooked fare; strawberry cheesecake and waffles from our chocolate tour of Tampere.
